Common Home Corps

In partnership with faculty from Creighton and Loyola University Chicago, Catholic Climate Covenant is launching the Common Home Corps. As outlined below, Common Home Corps trains leaders to organize local Catholics, build Pope Francis’s “culture of encounter” by meeting with their bishop and other diocesan leaders, and advocate for climate action that lives the Church’s mission: enacting the Vatican’s Laudato Si’ Action Platform with focus on net zero carbon. Catholic Climate Covenant is the U.S. convener of the Laudato Si’ Action Platform.

The Covenant is now accepting applications from young leaders (aged 18-35) in select U.S. dioceses who seek to help the Church address the climate crisis by more deeply living its Catholic teaching. Those accepted into the Common Home Corps will:

1.      Attend an in-person training program at Loyola University Chicago from June 15-June 19, 2023 (all expenses paid for)

2.      Receive training in Catholic social teaching, the Vatican’s Laudato Si’ Action Platform, climate science, community organizing, and advocacy

3.      Become a leader working 5-10 hours per month organizing local Catholics to meet with their bishop/other diocesan leaders and catalyze climate action (especially net zero carbon)

4.      Be funded: Selected and trained leaders will receive a $3,000 annual stipend

Exploring the Integration of Faith, Justice, and the Intellectual Life in Jesuit, Catholic Higher Education

As the first director of the Bannan Institute (now the Bannan Forum), Robert Senkewicz premised his original vision “on the notion that struggling with the question of our Catholic and Jesuit identity is one way in which we can become a better and more genuine university.” This issue of explore returns to and continues that vision.
