December 19, 2022 Issue Fourteen

Five lit candles representing Advent, with a dark background.

"Advent is a time of invitation. It is a time of anticipation and preparation. As such, Advent opens me up to possibilities and offers a threshold of wonder—a span of four weeks that serves to transport me from the ordinary to the extraordinary, from the expected to the unexpected, from the end of one year to the beginning of the next.
As we anticipate and prepare for the birth of Christ, Advent allows us to slow down to savor the way the sacred shatters our earthly ordered existence tethered to the rules of science and civic order. We prepare to pause and consider this portal of grace—the manger, where God pierced our reality and entered into our most ordinary existence as a babe amongst livestock, humble parents, and the civic duty of a census."

-Pamela Ebstyne King, PhD

Prophetic Communities: Organizing as an Expression of Catholic Social Thought

University of San Francisco | Thursday February 9th -Saturday February 11th, 2023

English with simulcast interpretation to Spanish

This conference will explore how Catholic theology and social thought has given rise to community organizing and how community organizers embody and shape the Catholic social tradition. Convened at the University of San Francisco, this three-day event will bring together scholars across disciplines with community organizers of various networks to build relationships, knowledge, and capacity for theological reflection and praxis. Our hope is that bridging the church, academy, and social movements, this conference will foster the solidarity and synodality that Pope Francis has envisioned. Please see: https://rsvp.usfca.edu/event/5bdcf7e5-b758-47e8-9d24-f7047c902f35/summary
