Clergy Sexual Abuse: A West Coast View

A panel of speakers will offer a West Coast view of the clergy sexual abuse crisis, drawing on the diversity of the region's Catholics. This conversation will take place just before an important meeting about the crisis at the Vatican between Pope Francis and all of the presidents of the bishops conferences.

Bishop Oscar Cantú of San Jose will speak from the vantage point of his ministerial experiences in Latinx communities in California and New Mexico. Paul Crowley, S.J., SCU professor of Systematic Theology and editor of Theological Studies, will discuss global aspects of the crisis. Sr. Beena Kallely, a GTU doctoral student who wrote her S.T.L. thesis at JST on child sexual abuse in India, will give a South Asian perspective. Vivian Nabuule, a recent JST M.Div. graduate from Uganda, will draw upon her lay-ministerial experience in the African context.

• We are entertaining two more candidates for the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament position at JST. The Public Presentation for the second candidate is on February 19 and the third will be on February 26. The Public Presentations will be held from 1-2pm in Manresa. All are welcome and encouraged to come. Your feedback is essential for the hiring process.
