SVP Sustainable Futures Scholars Profiles

The Silicon Valley Power Sustainable Futures Program enhances college access through scholarships and networking opportunities for undergraduate students pursuing sustainability-focused studies and careers. Santa Clara University selects a cohort of undergraduate students each year for scholarships. This program is made possible through a generous grant from Silicon Valley Power (SVP), the City of Santa Clara’s municipal electric utility.

Dylon Moala ('26)

Dylon is committed to inspiring other Black and Brown students to pursue careers in STEM fields. As an Elevate Tutoring Fellow, he offers support on STEM subjects to underserved K-12 students.

Hope Saena ('27)

Hope is a Communications Associate at Climate Resilient Communities and was also a Voices Fellow at the Asian American Journalists Association. She aspires to pursue a career in environmental journalism.

Jesus Cruz

Jesus Cruz ('26) is majoring in Environmental Science. Originally from San Jose, Jesus plans to study business and use his talents to grow his family’s landscaping company. He is a LEAD Peer Educator, providing peer-to-peer support for first generation college students. He is also a Financial Advisor for the Latino Business Student Association.

Mikias would like to take the knowledge he gains from his studies back to his home country of Ethiopia. He is affiliated with Sigma Lambda Beta, a multicultural fraternity.

Uriel is interested in pursuing a career in environmental conservation. In 2024, he began working at the Forge Garden, first as a summer intern and then as an apprentice.

Yajaira hopes to pursue an environmental career focusing on accessibility and equity in marginalized communities, as well as an MBA in Corporate Sustainability. Her senior capstone project focused on water contamination in the Central Valley.
