One distinctive way in which the Jesuit School of Theology engages in comparative theology, interreligious dialogue, and preparation for ministry in the 21st century is through an annual cycle of interreligious, theological, course-based immersions. These for-credit courses are electives taught by scholars in the field, and a signature component of the JST curriculum. Each immersion includes opportunities for comparative studies, interpersonal interreligious encounter (including when possible community leaders on the societal margins), religious experience, and theological reflection. A fall course is followed by a two/three-week, in-country immersion during the January Intersession. Any JST degree-seeking student may apply for this course; the acceptance process is selective.
