Function

The Class visualization provides an in-depth view of the characteristics of classes; such as enrollment, counts, student declared plans, class component, and instructor type all presented by academic year.

Special Notes

Each class is assigned to a college/school, cluster, and department according to the current understanding of the academic structure.
This visualization allows a user to view online and onsite classes separately for the School of Law only, as the Law School coded these classes in PeopleSoft to allow for this level of reporting. Online Law classes appear under the subject "Legal Studies" and onsite Law classes appear under the subject "Law". All other online classes offered by Santa Clara University are presented together with onsite classes under the respective subject, and cannot be viewed separately.

Data are a sum of student enrollment with the option of displaying the associated class section titles

The Enrollment Levels dashboard displays the number of non-combined and combined class sections with student enrollment of fewer than 20, between 20 and 50, and more than 50 for the selected subject.

Class sections are placed into categories based on enrollment in each term and class section.
Combined class sections are presented under each of the involved subjects and are indicated by the darker shade.
Enrollment for the combined classes represents the sum of the enrollment for the combined sections.

Function

The Non-Combined Classes dashboard displays class titles, number of students enrolled, along with associated academic plans of students enrolled in the class sections for a selected subject.

Enrollment by Academic Plan: Combined Classes

Population

Percentage of students registering through each class section.
Data are a count of academic plans of students enrolled in the class.

Function

The Combined Classes dashboard displays the class titles, number of students enrolled in each section and percentage, along with associated academic plans of students enrolled in those class sections for the selected subject. Enrollment for each section of the combined class is displayed.

Special Notes

If the combined sections cross class levels (lower/upper, for example) and class level "all" is selected, enrollment for each section is displayed. However, if "lower" or "upper", or "graduate" is selected for combined sections that cross class levels, only the enrollment for the selected level is displayed.

Classes Taught: by Instructor Type Totals

Population

Data are a sum of class sections taught by instructor type (also displayed as a percent of total)

Function

The Instructor Type Totals dashboard displays the class sections taught by instructor category or type, aggregated across terms and presented over the academic year.

Special Notes

Class section totals are unweighted by teaching credit, which varies by college/school for labs, rehearsals, and special projects
Percent of total is calculated using the view level selected (i.e., cluster, department, subject)
Combined sections are reported as a single class in the college/school, , department, and subject of the controlling section. Enrollment for the combined classes represents the sum of the enrollment for the combined sections.
Departments with multiple subjects are displayed as individual subject; tooltip data represents the Subject values.
Class sections that are taught by more than one instructor are counted only once. Counts of classes taught by multiple instructors are divided by the number of instructors. For example, a class taught by 2 instructors assigns ½ of the class to each instructor.
Postdoctoral Appointments: Prior to 2020-21, postdoctoral appointments were included in this visualization under "Other Term (Full-time)" and "Fixed Term (Part-time)". For 2019-20 forward, postdoctoral appointments are reported under "Post Doctoral".
