Host Process Overview

Timeline and Overview of the Process to Host a J-1 Scholar

1. SCU Faculty/Staff Host submits the International Visitor Proposal to scholars@scu.edu by the deadline
2. Proposal is reviewed for immigration eligibility by International Students and Scholars and hosts receive communication on next steps within three business days
3. After a proposal is approved, the Faculty/Staff Host submits the Host Agreement and appropriate scholar letter (appointment letter / job offer letter / global invitation letter), as determined by International Students and Scholars (ISS).
4. The J-1 Scholar submits his/her Scholar's DS-2019 Request and, if relevant, his/her Scholar’s Request for Dependent DS-2019  to scholars@scu.edu with cc to the Host.
5. Immigration sponsorship documents are issued by the Global Engagement Office and mailed to the Scholar along with original scholar letter and instructions on the visa application process.
6. SCU Faculty/Staff Host and International Students and Scholars team engages with Scholar on pre-arrival preparation
7. Arrival, mandatory on-campus orientation
8. Program participation
9. Evaluations completed by the visiting international scholar and Host
10. Departure of J-1 Scholar
