Roles and Responsibilities of the Global Engagement Office With International Visitors

The Global Engagement Office responsibilities include:

  1. Review the International Visitor Proposal submitted by Faculty/Staff Host Coordinator in keeping with University compliance/immigration regulations and respond within five business days with any individual follow-up questions and requests for any additional documentation necessary to advise accurately on immigration status
  2. Communicate with appropriate departments regarding campus approvals if Scholar/Researcher will teach and/or be paid
  3. Draft Global Visitor Invitation Letter for Host Coordinator to send to Scholar/Researcher
  4. Collect necessary supporting documents from international visitor
  5. Issue immigration documentation (DS-2019) via the government system (SEVIS)
  6. FedEx immigration documentation (DS-2019) and original supporting documents
  7. to the Scholar using account string provided by the Host Coordinator
  8. Advise international visitor on the visa application process
  9. Advise international visitor on government and SCU health insurance requirement
  10. Upon international visitor’s arrival, verify immigration documentation and activate the immigration record within the government system (SEVIS)
  11. Verify Scholar’s compliance with health insurance requirements and report in the government system, as required
  12. Provide government mandated orientation on immigration regulations, U.S. culture and community
  13. Advise international visitor and Host Coordinator on immigration and government regulations required for SCU compliance
  14. Advise international visitor on other government services such as Social Security numbers and drivers licenses
  15. Support the international visitor’s legal needs
  16. Support the international visitor with adjustment to US culture
  17. Advise the international visitor on departure from the US and implications for future bars/opportunities to re-enter the US
  18. Submit/collect evaluation from the Host Coordinator, if relevant
  19. Submit/collect evaluation from the international visitor, if relevant
